Interview With Professor F. Novelli
Today we decided to interview Professor Novelli to understand how the guidance and orientation activities at Volta in Tivoli are carried out in schools.
We asked the Professor a few questions to better understand the procedure, the aims of the orientation process, and to learn more about Professor Novelli's teaching approach.
Interview Questions
- What inspired you to choose teaching as a profession? And when you were a child did you already dream of becoming a teacher?
My Highschool teacher and my middle school teacher inspired me to become an English teacher.
- What gives you the most satisfaction when you see your students learning a new language?
Their joy and ability to learn something new.
- What did you do this year for the school orientation and how did it go?
In this year we displayed new activities in the schools we visited, the 3D things we printed, videogames programmed by the students, VR, robots and so on. During the orientation period we choose students from the third year to the fifth to help us with the activities; the peer to peer approach is the best when the middle school students meet the former students who are attending our school. It went very well for our school and a lot of new students will be coming next year.Another important issue is with our students: we could tutoring them, learning to know them better during those activities.
- What is your main approach to guiding students who struggle with English?
To find the best way or the best approach that could fit each student best.
- How do you try to teach not just grammar, but also the culture of English-speaking countries?
I try to use songs, videos, cultural festivals and curiosities that could attract students to the lesson I'm teaching.
- How do you suggest your students to practice the language outside of school hours?
I usually try to give the students the advice to watch English movies or tv series to practice more the language and pronounce.
- What is the most beautiful or funniest memory that you have from your time in the classroom?
There are a lot of memories from the time in the classroom but the best is that i had an electronic class that had few reckless students but in time they managed to learn English and now after school they all learned the importance of learning a new language.
- If you could go back intime, would you choose this career path again or explore different fields?
Yes of course.
- For how many years have you been dedicated to this profession?
Since 2009.
